Well as you have figured out I am horrible at this whole blogging thing...the last time I posted something was at the beginning of the year!
There has been quite a bit going on with me for the past 6 or 7 months...the condensed version is I have been feeling really yucky, getting dizzy and feeling nauseous. I went to my doctor and she thought I was suffering from anxiety. She prescribed me Xanax, but I wasn't really satisfied with just taking a pill...I wanted to know what was going on. I saw an endocrinologist who ran some blood work and didn't really find anything wrong with me other than a low thyroid (but not what was causing my symptoms). I was at Sofia's GI appointment and decided to pick Dr. Davies brain and she suggested I see GI. So I got the referral to see a GI doctor...he ran a ton of blood work, from a CBC panel to tests that would indicate if I had some sort of cancer...again everything was normal (but my thyroid) except a food allergy panel that indicated that I could have been allergic to TONS of foods...lettuce, tomato, carrots, celery, strawberries, bananas, apples oranges...to name a few. Also nuts and grains were on the list of possibilities. My GI doctor said that he wanted to run some more tests and that he would make referral to an allergist once all his tests were ran. My GI doctor did an abdominal ultra sound to make sure my organs were as they should be, they were. Then he ordered a HIDA scan to make sure my gallbladder functioned properly, it does. Then he did an Upper GI Scope to make sure I didn't have any ulcers or stomach disease, I didn't. And finally he did a delayed emptying study to make sure my food processed at a normal rate, it does. Basically all my tests were normal, but what he did discover was I had a HUGE amount of anxiety during my scope...I mean go figure he was shoving camera down my throat (with sedation) and I was anxious about that?!?! He mentioned that anxiety can cause sever GI issues and it was possible that it was the cause of my symptoms. So I consulted my primary doctor and she decided to try Celexa for the anxiety...Xanax is only for acute anxiety and can be highly addictive so she didn't want me taking it for daily use. Within 4 days of being on Celexa I felt the worse I had felt so far! I couldn't eat, what I did eat came up, I basically was able to eat bananas, chicken broth and apple sauce (if I was lucky). I lost 7 pounds in 4 days and ended up in the ER on the 4th day because I couldn't keep anything down and I was just not feeling right. I saw my doctor the next day and she took me off the Celexa...never again will I take that stuff! I got the referral for the allergist and he said that the blood tests weren't 100% conclusive and because I do suffer from seasonal allergies it can cause false positives. He asked that I come back in a week to do scratch testing...from the scratch testing he determined that I am in fact allergic to dairy, wheat, oat, potato, corn, peanut, sesame, celery, cantaloupe and watermelon! Talk about a wakeup call...and time for a lifestyle change. He suggested I cut the things I am allergic to out of my diet and see if it makes a difference.
This was just 2 weeks ago that I received all this information so it is still all very new to me. But I have really embraced this change and I really do feel good! I am putting better things into my body...still trying to find snack items...but over all I am feeling very positive about it all! I found a great website that has tons of recipes on it. They are based off of the Paleo Diet (nuts, berries, fruit, vegetables and meat) which is more struck than I need to be but it is really providing me with guidance as I figure this all out! I have been cooking great dinners that both Gil and Madison are really enjoying...and I am enjoying it too!
I have been posting recipes on FB, but wanted a way to post things that was easier to reference and look back on as time passes!
Hopefully everyone is happy and healthy as you are reading this...i am off to play with Madison before it gets too dark!
Here's the link to the site I am getting my yummy recipes from www.elanaspantry.com.
